tents in green grass field with trees

“My tent doesn’t look like much but, as an estate agent might say, “It is air-conditioned and has exceptional location.”

― Fennel Hudson, A Waterside Year

Fresh air, fun and freedom...there are many benefits to being outdoors and enjoying the countryside. Here are 12 reasons why we love camping and why it makes a terrific holiday option:

  1. Being outdoors is good for us all in many ways.
Most of us spend way too much time indoors…but now you are outside take a big deep breath.  Fresh air has health benefits, it can improve our blood pressure, it can aid our digestion, it can even boost the immune system and of course our brains function better with increased levels of oxygen which releases serotonin and makes us feel happier and less stressed.  A dose of fresh air can be one of the best ways to clear your mind before focussing on returning to work and school.

  2. Make time to get away from it all.
Work can wait till Monday. When you’re not continually checking Facebook, twitter or email you can reconnect with your family and with what is really important in that moment. Leave your iPad at home, turn off your mobile phone when you arrive at your site and take time to decompress from your busy life and career in a beautiful, peaceful and tranquil space.

  3. Enjoy sitting round a campfire or BBQ with friends and family
We all lead busy lives at home, so when you’re on holiday, kick back and embrace the opportunity to be with your loved ones. Unwind whilst you listen to the sea lapping, a stream trickling nearby or the breeze blowing through the trees..…shhh.

  4. Camping provides us with different opportunities for exercise.
Backpacking, swimming, fishing, playing games or going for a hike….these types of cardiovascular activity have huge benefits to the health of your heart and lungs as well as it being a great way to enjoy time with loved ones having fun and making memories.

  5. Why do you sleep so well when you’re camping?
Because you feel soothed and relaxed, you sleep like a log…is it the fresh air, the sounds of nature outside the tent and the incredible day you’ve filled with memorable family activities; whether you’re sleeping out under the stars or zipped into a leak proof tent, you’ll have the best night’s sleep.

  6. Try something you haven’t done before
Camping can bring many opportunities for exciting new challenges, meaning every camping trip can be totally different. Be sure to explore the natural surroundings of the park and investigate the activities on offer.

  7. Spontaneity is a total joy
When you’re camping, you can escape the time pressures and commitments of daily life at home and be more relaxed about your day’s activities. Choose to go for a hike, visit a golden sandy beach, take the kids to a playground, enjoy some water sports, visit a castle or follow a nature trail…why pack up a picnic and make a day of it?

  8. Food cooked outside tastes so much better
Having a campfire or BBQ gives you the excuse to enjoy hot dogs or burgers cooked outside.  Get creative with all your campfire cooking from breakfast through to dinner, cook your family favourites differently and open that bag of marshmallows and let the kids make s’mores - delicious!

  9. Teach your kids about nature
‘Leaving the campsite cleaner than when you came’ is a message that you’ll want your kids to live with their whole lives.  It is much easier to teach children the need for recycling or explain how littering is harmful to our planet when they’re standing on miles of beautiful unspoilt sandy beach or staring at acres of open woodland.

  10. You can be Bear Grylls too!
Brush up on your outdoor skills or learn completely new ones. Show the kids how to pitch a tent or cook over an open fire, take them fishing or demonstrate how to navigate or map read.

  11. Camping can be a cheaper alternative
Once you’ve got your camping kit, booked your pitch and bought your food, there are very few other outgoings to a camping holiday - often much cheaper than package holidays or resorts. Plus of course, you can use your kit time and again!

  12. Camping is for everyone
Whether you’re a seasoned camper, a new-to-it glamper or a hard-core survivalist, camping can be catered to everyone’s taste for the outdoors.

Do you want to make the most out of your next break?  Camping is affordable, fun and there is enough room out there for us all - find your perfect park and then get packed up and go!

  • Tanner Farm Park

left quotesright quotesI love this site. It's set in beautiful surroundings and there are useful shops just down the road in the village, although I wouldn't touch the Chinese takeaway there with a barge pole (had food from there once and it was vile). The pitches are an excellent size and the park definitely doesn't feel crowded. All facilities are clean and well maintained.
